Poems: 3 for Yeshi

1.  Hunted

The sun crawls pinkly

up

a mountainside white with snow

the sun

skims the icy surface

on which you lie facedown

trying to breathe

after long nights

wolves dark in dreams

circling

amid finger

a hapless guide who doesn’t know

the sun

peaks

enters the cave

where you live

the sun only

ascetic

bones showing

the gray wolf

years later

the path

warms barely

your hands

2.  Stranger

Come

from across

mountains

you sit when

everyone else

stands

stand for the teacher

face red

when everyone else

sits

3. Global

In rural Tibet

you did not know

herder of sheep

a radio

a car

split 6 years

now

big world

from family

you can use a cell

electricity

of change

to make a call

not even the Chinese

of the heart

can stop
