Poem: Khari Baoli*

People overflocking

dense curve of cardamom

sewers spill along the

bright give of ginger

oily smell

mixpickle   man go

thousands voices

black tea with roses

face-covered

hustling

flowerwoman

star-anise

wheeling

starving

sewers mixed with

motorcycling

ghostchile

lotus

hawking

jalokia

mansleeping

shrunk in

gold

*the spice market in old Delhi
